Heating Oil Prices Weather the Storms

American Energy Coalition – September 6th, 2017

The hearts and minds of the American Energy Coalition are with the countless individuals and families who’ve been displaced or otherwise affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. These tragedies should never go unrecognized by any industry, and we are deeply thankful for those brave volunteers who put their lives and businesses on the line to help others in their time of need. We stand behind you 100%.

Thankfully, although the hurricane season has caused some disruptions for gasoline and natural gas production and supply, causing the prices of those fuels to rise, heating oil prices and supplies in the Northeast have so far remained steady and secure.

“We’re in a good situation in terms of fuel supplies, not so in the southeastern United States,” said Matt Cota, speaking with reporters from ABC 22 News in Williston, Vermont. Cota is the executive director of the Vermont Fuel Dealers Association, a nonprofit trade association representing the state’s energy suppliers.

“We’re still a month, two months away from the heating season,” said Cota. “We are well-supplied for heating oil and propane, and we don’t expect any changes in the weeks ahead.”

Cota added that today’s prices are similar to what they were at this time last year.

While the Northeast remains secure, our neighbors in Texas, Louisiana and the Caribbean have not been so fortunate, and AEC joins VFDA in rooting for those areas to bounce back soon.

“Fuel is critical,” said Cota. “It’s critical to run the generators for when the power is disrupted. It’s critical to run the excavators and the heavy equipment for the cleanup. It’s critical to get those generators for the cell phone towers back up and running.”
